Begin your journey through Spain and Portugal in the capital city of Madrid. Visit the fortified, Alvila, scenic Salamanca, the best of the Castile region, then enter Portugal by crossing the Serra da Estrela and continue on to Coimbra.
Stop in at Fatima to see the famous sanctuary there, then go to the spectacular walled city complete with towers and bastions: Obidos. Discover Lisbon, the city of the explorer Henry the Navigator, then travel back to Spain via the Sierra de Aracena. Spend two splendid nights in Seville, touring the city center, the Alcazar, the Plaza d'Espana, and more.
Trek across Don Quixote's La Mancha, which is adorned with castle and windmills, and finally return to Madrid for two more nights before bidding this vacation farewell.

Day 1. Welcome to Madrid!
Welcome to Spain! Upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to start exploring lively Madrid. Tonight, meet your Tour Director and fellow travelers.

Day 2. Madrid – Avila – Salamanca – Coimbra (Portugal)
Journey west to fortified Avila, then on to Salamanca, just six miles from the spot where Wellington routed Napoleon’s army in 1812. Make sure you spend some time wandering around Salamanca’s Plaza Mayor, one of the most beautiful squares in Spain.
A profusion of woodlands and mountains awaits you as you journey into the valley of the Serra da Estrela on your way to Portugal for your overnight stay in Coimbra.

Located close to downtown Coimbra, this quiet property boasts functional comfort and personalized service. Take the complimentary shuttle service into the city center to wander through the museums or indulge in gourmet-style tapas. Day 3. Coimbra – Fátima – Obidos – Lisbon
This morning, enjoy an orientation tour of Coimbra, strategically situated on a hill overlooking the Mondego River. From here you’ll travel to Fátima, where you’ll stop to see the sanctuary, made famous by the Virgin Mary’s apparition to three shepherd children — Francisco, Jacinth, and Lucia — on May 13, 1917.
You’ll then travel on a few more miles for a stop in Obidos, a fortified city still flanked by towers and bastions overlooking the countryside dotted with windmills.

Day 4. Lisbon
Spend the afternoon wandering through the Alfama’s tile-decorated streets, before embarking on your guided sightseeing tour!
Day 5. Lisbon – Seville (Spain)
Drive southeast this morning into the Alentejo, through the countryside famous for its production of cork. Then, travel on to the border at Vila Verde and cross into Spain for the journey into Andalusia, enjoying quite different scenery as you skirt the Sierra de Aracena before reaching delightful Seville for the first of two nights.

Be seduced by Seville at Hotel Don Paco, located just a 10-minute walk from the cathedral and Giralda Tower. Complete with a gorgeous rooftop bar and pool overlooking the city, you'll experience the romance of Seville from this hotel. Day 6. Seville
Seville is one of Spain’s most colorful and vibrant cities. Enjoy an included sightseeing tour with all the main highlights, including the iconic Plaza de España.
Day 7. Seville – Cordoba – Madrid
Drive to Cordoba. This is Spain’s most Moorish city with its great mosque, which is rightly known as one of Islam’s greatest pieces of architecture outside the Arab world and is now a Catholic cathedral since 1236.
Later, travel into the very heart of La Mancha, famed for its castles and windmills.

Day 8. Madrid
Enjoy free time in Madrid, or join the fascinating optional trip to Toledo. The splendid setting of this old walled city above the Tagus River was made famous in El Greco’s painting—even now, it’s like a great open-air museum of Spanish history and art. Later, join the included Madrid city sightseeing. As the capital of Spain and situated 2,180 feet above sea level, the Spaniards call Madrid the nearest thing to Heaven.
Day 9. Depart Madrid
Your Iberian getaway ends this morning. After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for your return flight home.
