Day 1. Welcome to Barcelona!
Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain, and home of the 1992 Olympic Games. Upon arrival, pick up your rental car and make your way to your hotel – and home - for the next five nights. You’ll have today and all day tomorrow to explore the highlights of this beautiful city!
Eric Vokel is a Danish architect and designer who fell in love with Barcelona's architecture, culture and Mediterranean liveliness - which led to him creating his own line of boutique apartment-style hotels in the city. Each of his Barcelona apartment-style hotel complexes has been designed and decorated by Eric, delivering an . An avid traveler, he also created these spaces so guests can enjoy traveling as much as he does. Eric has designed all the apartments with the greatest of care, as if they were his own home, and he has designed them with the maximum number of elements for comfort and ecological efficiency. The Barcelona Suites complex includes 12 completely renovated and fully furnished apartments, and is ideal for families, or travelers looking for some extra space and comforts of home while visiting this beautiful city. The fully equipped kitchens boast designer kitchenware, a dishwasher, washing machine & dryer, stove, freezer, Nestle Dolce Gusto Coffee Machine, plus a variety of other small appliances. Also included are air conditioning/heating, towels, bed linens, hair dryers, cribs & high chairs, big screen LCD televisions with international satellite channels, complimentary Wi-Fi and local phone calls, reception service and 24-hour check-in. Daily cleaning, food delivery and parking are available, at an additional charge.
Day 2. Barcelona
Following breakfast, a good place to begin is in the city’s Old Town area, crossed by Barcelona’s most famous avenue, Las Ramblas, full of interesting sites. From there, stroll to the Barri Gotic (Gothic Quarter), where the 13th century Gothic Cathedral is located. Also in Montjuic you’ll find the Palau Nacional, home of the Museu Nacional d’Art Catalan, hosting a great collection of medieval art (especially Romanesque frescoes). If Gaudí is your thing, then you should not miss Guell Park, full of his work covered in brightly colored tiles. Afterwards see the Sagrada Familia, a Christian temple and the most famous and spectacular of Gaudí´s works. Unfortunately he died before finishing the work (he is buried here, in the crypt), which continues to this day. Other must-see sites in Barcelona include the Palau de la Musica, Museu Picasso and the Olympic Harbour.
Day 3. Barcelona - Montserrat
After breakfast, set out for Montserrat, approximately 37 miles west and less than an hour from Barcelona. Located in the heart of Catalonia, Monstserrat is a spectacular multi-peaked mountain that forms Spain’s first national park. The Benedictine Monastery of Montserrat, founded in the 11th century, is located within – and in addition to the monks, the Monastery is inhabited by the Escolania – the oldest boys choir in Europe, who perform daily for visitors from all over the world.
Day 4. Barcelona – Figueres - Girona
Today you can venture off to Figueres (approximately 85 miles northwest of, and 90 minutes from Barcelona), birthplace of Salvador Dali and home to the Teatro-Museo Dali - which hosts most of the artist’s unique works and is dedicated to the genius of surrealist painting. This, after the Prado Museum in Madrid, is the most visited museum in Spain. Another remarkable museum in the city is the Museu de Joguets (Toy Museum). On your way back to Barcelona, nearby towns of interest include Banyoles, with its fine 13th century porticoed square, and Besalú where a 12th century fortified bridge still survives.
You should also stop in Girona – a delightful town known with a beautiful historic center, known for its art and culture. The Barri Vell (Old Town) is a showcase for more than 2,000 years of history, and a perfect area for strolling through the charming streets and admiring its outstanding monuments. The Passeigh Arqueologic (Archaeological Walk) provides a pleasant walkway along the old ramparts of the city. See the Esglesica de Saint Feliu, dating from the 14th century, and the Cathedral of Saint Mary of Girona, mainly gothic with some Catalan Baroque style.
Day 5. Barcelona – Sitges
Today it is recommended you pay a visit to Sitges – less than 25 miles southwest of, and approximately 30 minutes from Barcelona. The Coast of Garraf, on the Mediterranean Sea and the surrounding mountains and Parc Natural del Garraf, provide a beautiful natural setting to this town. As a result, Sitges has been referred to as the St. Tropez of Spain - with property prices approaching those of the most expensive European cities. Its interesting historic quarter complements the luxury compounds, golf courses and marinas right next to the beach, and the cuisine is the most representative of typically Catalan dishes.
