Day 2. Rome
Enjoy the day at your leisure exploring some of the more spiritual landmarks throughout Rome. Pope Francis has called on the entire Catholic Church to refashion itself as a place not of judgment or condemnation but of pardon and merciful love making the upcoming year officially declared a jubilee year of mercy. The first ceremony of a Jubilee is the opening of one of the entrances to St. Peter’s Basilica, the Holy Door. The Holy Door is only opened during a jubilee year and remains cemented shut the rest of the time. Opening the door symbolizes the extraordinary way that Catholics can open themselves up to their faith and that the faithful are offered an “extraordinary pathway” towards salvation.
Later today you will have a journey through the Basilicas, Catacombs and ancient streets of Rome today!
