Course Description

Castlerock Golf Club - This classic links, set amid towering sand dunes, lies a few miles across the River Bann from Portstewart. The view down the coast each way is spectacular with the impressive headland of Inishowen in County Donegal to the West. A round here will test every area of a golfers game. The golf is divided between some inlandholes running along the railway at the start and finish of the round, and some true linksland gems in between. The fourth hole ‘Leg of Mutton’ is a classic par 3 of 200 yards to a green protected on the right by the railway line, a teasing stream bordering the left and some strategic bunkering. The two-shot seventh called the ‘Armchair’, with its plateau green embedded in the surrounding sand and hills, also merits mention. Even on the days when your game can be frustrating it is still a pleasure to play either of the Castlerock courses, as the scenery is something to behold. There are magnificent views of the Donegal Hills, the Bann Estuary as the river winds it's way towards Coleraine, the Atlantic Ocean with the Scottish Isles on the horizon, and miles of sand dunes and golden beaches. Par 72, 6687 yards
